"A Reflection on My First Internship. Lessons Learned and Growth Achieved".
Welcome to my blog post! In this post, I would like to share with you my experience during my first internship. So without further ado, let's dive in!
January 2023 was a month that I'll never forget. It was the month that I embarked on my internship at The Hindu an Indian English-language daily newspaper, one of India's most prestigious newspapers. As some one who has always been passionate about writing and journalism, I was thrilled to have the opportunity to work at such a renowned media house.
However, as a young woman who was new to the world of journalism, I couldn't help but feel nervous and intimidated. I was worried that I lack the necessary skills and knowledge. However, I was fortunate enough to have a god father who is an architect and was always willing to offer guidance and support. Whenever I had doubts or needed tips and pointers, I would call him up and he would patiently listen to my concerns and offer me valuable advice. His encouragement helped me gain confidence and direct the challenges of my internship with greater ease.
Thankfully, my mentors at The Hindu were incredibly kind and supportive. They advise me to read daily newspapers, articles, and watch news, how to write engaging headlines, and how to conduct a thorough research before uploading or publishing anything, in order to ensure accuracy and credibility of the content.
As the days went by, I started to become more comfortable in my role as an intern. My mentor suggested that I attend a press conference, where I had the opportunity to represent The Hindu. Additionally my mentor also sent me to attend the Apeejay Kolkata Literary Festival for a second time , where I gained valuable experience.
One of the most valuable lessons I learned during my internship was the importance of networking. My mentor encouraged me to reach out to other journalist and editors, and to attend media events and press conference. Through these experiences, I was able to meet a wide range of professionals in the industry and learn from their experiences and insights.
Overall, my internship at The Hindu was a challenging and rewarding experience that pushed me out of my comfort zone and helped me to grow personally. I realize that it was much more than just a chance to gain practical experience in the field of journalism. It was an opportunity for me to discover my own strengths and confidence that I'll need to succeed in the future.
